Barbarossa festival

Waiting for the decision by Quartiers…

A remind in the past, one of the most suggestive and ancient historical reenactments among sounds, coulors, savour and emotion.

The quartiers – Borgo, Canneti, Castello and Prato – challenge each other to conquer the Emperor’s pitchers in spectacular archery and flag competitions. A party into the party.

This is a reenactment of the historical meeting between Frederick I of Sweden known as Barbarossa and the Pope’s ambassadors. Barbarossa was to become Emperor but it had to be ratified by the Pope so Barbarossa came south as far as San Quirico which was close to the border with Papal territories.  The festival celebrates this meeting.
